About this work

The Florida Keys sit in a high-velocity hurricane zone, and much of coastal Miami-Dade is in the same conversation. Owners ask for a wind-rated garage door because the opening is a large moving wall. The useful answer is specific: which assembly, which design pressure, and whether the track and the jamb can hold what the label assumes.

The label is not a story about the last storm

A rating comes from a test of a door assembly. It does not certify the existing concrete, the wood jamb on a 1920s Key West house, or a track that was lagged into softened lumber. Putting a rated leaf on an unrated fastening plan does not borrow the test result.

What has to be chosen together

The leaf, the track, the hinges, the struts, and the way the track is tied back into the structure are one specification. Glass rows, decorative overlays, and low-headroom kits can change what is available in a rated build. The measure of headroom on site comes before a model is promised.

What this page will not pretend

Keys Door Co does not publish a design pressure for your lot, does not file building paperwork, and does not treat a brochure photo as approval. If your insurer or your building department wants a document, that request is yours to confirm. The company's work is the door assembly and the hardware that belongs with it.

Common questions

Is every insulated door wind-rated?

No. Insulation is about the core and the skin. A wind rating is a separate structural claim. Many insulated doors have no such rating.

We already have impact windows. Does the garage door follow automatically?

No. The garage opening is its own assembly. Windows being impact-rated does not change the door.

Can you guarantee the door will survive a named storm?

No. A rating is a laboratory description of an assembly. It is not a promise about a future hurricane, and it is not a statement about debris, surge, or the rest of the house.
