Door Panel Replacement in Homestead
Panel replacement swaps a section whose skin is gone, rusted through, or split, when the other sections are still straight. It is the right visit when the face of one panel has failed and the door above it still tracks. A closed dent, with the skin intact and the hinge line straight, is a different visit and can often stay. Color is matched at the opening, beside sections that have already faded in the sun.
Skin gone, rusted through, or split
A panel whose outer skin has peeled or perforated no longer supports the hinges the way the door was built. Rust through the bottom section is the common version, especially where the seal held water against the metal. A split that runs from a stile toward the center lets the section fold in a new place. If the sections above are straight and solid, replacing the bad one keeps the rest of the door.
Sight the hinges and leave the dent alone
From inside, look for holes in the skin, soft metal at the bottom edge, or a crack you can see daylight through. Sight the hinges: a straight line means the stack has not folded out of its joints. Do not screw a patch over a rust hole as a lasting fix, and never touch springs, cables, or set screws while you look.
Match the panel, then check the weight
The replacement is ordered to the height of the failed section, the hinge numbers at that joint, and the door's thickness. The wrong height moves every hinge above it and sends the rollers into the track at a bad angle. Color is chosen while looking at the door in its own light, because a sample in a store will not settle the match.
Color, stiles, and a dent that is not this job
Faded paint on the remaining sections will not blend invisibly with new paint, even when the color name matches. That is a normal limit of a one-panel swap, and it is better said before the panel is ordered. End stiles have to accept the hinges, so a panel with the wrong stile pattern will not sit in the stack. A closed dent is left alone or handled as a cosmetic conversation, and it does not require a new skin.
Sun, storms, and a bottom section
Roof heat and sun fade the upper sections of a door on a hot slab garage, while storms and daily cycles work on the bottom section. Older grid doors and western two-car lots often differ in width and in how faded the original finish has become. Campbell Drive marks the older grid, and the west side of Krome is a light marker for the wider lots. The replacement is still one matched panel, with the color judged on that opening.

Common questions
Is a dent the same as a bad panel?
A closed dent with a straight hinge line is a different visit, and the skin can stay. Panel replacement is for skin that is gone, rusted through, or split, with the other sections still straight. If the dent has opened a crack or torn a stile, it has become a panel.
Will the new section match the color?
Color is matched while looking at the door in the opening. The older sections will still look more faded than the new panel, even with a close color name. Expect a fresher section among older ones, and judge it in daylight on that door.
Why is thickness part of the order?
A thicker or thinner panel changes how the hinges meet and how the joint clears the track curve. Height and hinge pattern have to match for the same reason. The section that comes out is the pattern for the one that goes in.
