Torsion Spring Repair in Marathon
An interior garage and a canal-street bay both store the lift in the spring above the door. Park the door if you hear a tick or a bang, see a gap, or find the leaf twice as heavy. Leave the set screws tight, because those screws are what hold the stored energy. The bridge at the west end is a landmark on the drive, not a driveway, and the shaft stays unwound.
Along the canal
A canal-street bay takes salt air at the shaft and sits closer to the water than an interior garage. Say which opening you have before the header is assumed to be indoors. A gap in a coil, photographed from the floor, is the report that starts the order. Salt on the cone is hardware condition, not a size, and a sidewalk view cannot order the coil.
Inside the room
An interior garage holds the header in a room, with less spray and the same need for an honest coil. Wire size, inside diameter, length, and wind must agree with the door and the drums, not with the paint. On a matched pair both coils are usually renewed, and the bearings and cables are checked in that stop. Rollers come off only if they are flat or seized, and a stronger opener does not replace the spring.
The street, not the span
Write the street, not a restaurant, a bridge landing, or a view of the water. The span sequences the west side of the day and is not where the van stops. An interior garage on one street and a waterfront bay on another are different appointments. Say if the door is up or down, if you see one coil or two, and if a bang started it. If the bay sits between pilings, say that the stance for the bars is tight.
Drums after a bang
Drums and cables are looked at when a spring lets go, because a bang can throw a cable off its wrap. Not every heavy door is a cable job, and the work is named before it starts. Interior width and a canal bay width are not the same, so say single or double if you know. If you do not, the measure at the shaft settles the order, because those two doors do not share drums.
Open or heavy
A canal-street door stuck open should be called open, and an interior door that is down and heavy can wait. Leave the remaining spring unwound, and leave the button alone if the motor hums and the leaf stays put. Add a cross street when the block is long, so the landmark to the west is not treated as the address. The street ties the opening to the right drums, and the coil is chosen there.

Common questions
Where should this spring visit meet you?
Meet at the street, not on the bridge and not at a landmark someone uses for the west end. Say whether the opening is an interior garage or a bay that faces the water. The two settings are different stops, and the coil is measured above the door you name.
What is different on a waterfront bay?
Salt air reaches the shaft on a waterfront bay, and the bearing there is often the rough one. An interior garage keeps the spring in a room with less of that spray. A gap or a bang means park the door, and both coils on a matched pair are renewed.
Why are both coils usually renewed together?
On a matched pair the second coil has shared the age and the cycles of the one that let go. Both are usually renewed, and the bearings and cables are checked at the same time. A stronger opener does not replace the spring on either kind of Marathon opening.
