Middle Keys
Marathon is a city, and the doors are on a city grid.
About this area
Marathon stretches across several keys but functions as a city: a grid, schools, an airport, and the Seven Mile Bridge leaving to the west. Residential doors range from under-house bays near the water to more ordinary garages on the interior streets. Calling every middle-Keys house 'Marathon' loses Key Colony Beach and Duck Key, which are separate.
- Road
- US-1 through a municipal grid; Seven Mile Bridge at the west end
- Housing
- City lots, canal homes, and raised houses
- Constraint
- Bridge traffic at the west end changes the run order
Interior streets versus water streets
A door on an interior Marathon street can be a normal slab garage. A door on a canal street is often grade-level and salty. We need which one, because the operator specification is not the same.
The bridge is a planning fact
A crew coming from the lower Keys crosses the Seven Mile Bridge into Marathon. A crew coming from Islamorada does not. If the door is an emergency-for-you because a car is trapped, say that the car is trapped. We still will not publish a travel time.
Common questions
Does the city limit include Key Colony Beach?
Key Colony Beach is its own city on the Marathon shoreline. It has a separate page. Use that name if it is the address.
Is the airport a landmark you want?
Only as a rough area. The street is better. The airport is not a meeting place.
