Extension Spring Repair in South Miami
Extension springs stretch beside the horizontal track, which is a different layout from a torsion shaft. The safety cable is what keeps a broken spring from flying, and it is part of the repair. In South Miami the work replaces that side spring, checks the cable, and then balances the door. Painted color bands are not a full specification for the pair that has to match the door.
How a side spring fails
A broken extension spring looks like a loose coil hanging above the car or along the track. The door goes heavy on that side, and the opener may hum because the help is gone. The safety cable should still be in the center of the coil if it did its job. Two springs, one on each side, share the door, so one broken mate leaves the other overworked.
What you leave parked
Leave the door parked and keep people out until the loose coil and the cable are dealt with. Do not touch the coils, the pulleys, or the safety cable, even if the spring looks slack. Never touch springs, cables, or set screws, and do not pull on a coil to see if it is still attached. A photo from the side of the horizontal track shows the layout without a hand on the hardware.
Pair, cable, and balance
The visit identifies the side-spring layout, replaces the broken spring, and makes sure the safety cable is in it. The mate on other side is checked, because a tired partner will fail soon after the new one goes in. Pulleys and clips are inspected while the spring is off, since a worn pulley chews the next coil. A torsion cone does not repair this layout, and ordering that hardware will not fit the stretch springs.
Color bands and the real size
Color bands on an extension spring are only a rough hint of the length, stretch, and pull. A safety cable of the right length has to run through the new coil before the door is used. Clips at the door and at the track end have to match, or the spring will not stay put. Putting a torsion spring above the door is a conversion, which is a different visit from replacing this pair.
Side springs on older bays
Extension springs show up often on the single-car openings of older shaded city lots. Those bays in South Miami have lower headroom than a new tract, which is why springs run beside the track. Shade along Sunset Drive cools the wall while the springs above the car still feel the ceiling. Say that the coils are beside the track, not above a shaft, so the right spring is brought.

Common questions
What does a loose coil above the car actually mean?
A loose coil beside the horizontal track is usually an extension spring that has broken. Park the door, keep people clear, and leave the coil and the safety cable untouched. The opener humming afterward is often the motor trying to lift weight that spring used to carry.
Do the painted bands tell you which spring to order?
The bands are only a hint, and the door still has to be matched for length and pull. Two springs of the same color can differ in the stretch this door actually needs. The safety cable and the clips are part of that match, not optional extras on the order.
Can a torsion spring above the door replace this side spring?
A torsion cone fits a shaft over the door, and it does not repair springs that stretch beside the track. This layout needs an extension spring with a safety cable through the coil. Converting the whole system is a separate visit from replacing the broken side spring.
