Cable Repair in Marathon
Cable trouble in Marathon splits between canal streets and interior garages, and one grid is not one exposure. On a canal street the fixture sits near damp air, and the anchor can pit while the leaf looks fair. On an interior street the same slack, fray, or one sided lift is more often cycles on a drier door. Say canal or interior before the symptom so the corner is already in the plan.
Along the canal
A canal street puts damp air on the bottom fixture and lets the cable fray at that low corner. The line may go slack or the door may start on one side, while the leaf still looks fair. Say canal street when that is the setting, and keep hands off the low bracket. A slack cable is not wound back onto the drum by hand from the apron. Strands that have let go, even a few, mean the door stays parked until it is controlled.
Interior and drier
An interior garage is drier, and slack cable there is less often about standing damp on the sill. Cycles, a chewed drum, or a worn fixture can still put the door up on one side. Say interior so the stop is not planned as a canal exposure with a soaked corner. The three parts stay together in that room, and a sheltered bay is not a reason to grip the bracket. Parted strands park an interior door for the same reason they park a canal door.
Either street, same order
The door is controlled before rewind on either street, and new cable will not hold in a crumbled fixture. That soft corner is the usual canal finding, and it is still possible indoors. Balance is confirmed before the stop is over, so the fresh line is not carrying an unmatched leaf. A roller is replaced only if it is flat, seized, or out of the track. Wheels that continue to roll stay on the door, in canal damp or in interior dust.
Layout is separate
Springs carried above the door are torsion, and springs beside the horizontal track are extension. Extension work is not performed as a torsion repair, and the street name does not choose the layout. Canal houses and interior garages can each have either arrangement, so say what the floor shows. A shaft over the header means torsion, and coils along the horizontal track mean extension. If a canal house leaves the springs in open air, add that, because the air is exposure only.
Canal or interior first
Write canal street or interior garage before you describe what the leaf is doing. Note whether the door is level or twisted, whether the cable is seated, and whether strands are open. Add the spring layout when you can see it, and mention a soft or rusty bottom fixture. A photo of the still corner helps on a canal street, where the fixture is easy to misjudge.

Common questions
Is the canal system different from an interior door?
Canal streets and interior garages share one system of cable, drum, and bottom fixture. The canal street puts more damp on the fixture, and the interior door is usually drier. Name the street type you have so that exposure is in the note before the stop.
Is a dry garage safe to rewind by hand?
A drier interior room still leaves the cable off the drum, and the low bracket is not a grip there. Parted strands mean the door is parked, and rewind follows control of the leaf on either street.
What should be said about the springs?
Springs above the door are torsion, and springs beside the horizontal track are extension on their own. Name the layout on this opening, including springs left in open air beside a canal. Renew a roller only when it is flat, seized, or out of the track, and confirm balance in that stop.
