Off-Track Door Repair in Key West
Off-track repair puts a roller back into the vertical track when the door is hanging crooked. The spring is still loaded, so the door is not hammered back into the track from the ground. Reset is done only when the cables and the balance can hold the door once it is straight. Bent track or a torn fixture is part of the repair, not something left for a later visit. A creased section from the same event is a panel job and is handled with the track work.
A roller out and a crooked hang
The usual sight is a roller standing outside the vertical track and the door leaning with it. Sometimes the top fixture has torn and the corner of the door has swung into the opening. The door may be stuck partway up, or it may be down with one side clearly out of line. Forcing it hard with a hammer feels tempting and only bends the track or the fixture further.
Do not hammer a loaded door
Leave the door where it hangs for now, and do not hammer the roller back into the track. The spring is still fully loaded, so a sudden move can drop the loose side. Never touch the springs, the cables, or the set screws while you are looking up at the lean. Keep people well clear of the opening, and do not pull the release on a door that is crooked.
Reset only when the door can be held
The cables and the balance are both checked before the roller is guided back into the track. If those lifting parts can hold the door, the reset is made and the travel is watched. Bent track is straightened or replaced, and a torn fixture is changed before the door is fully run. A creased section is a panel repair, because a bent skin will not stay in a straight track.
Track fixtures and a section crease
Vertical track that has opened at a bolt will let the same roller walk out again. The fixture that holds the top roller is a common tear when the door is hit or pulled. A crease in the section near that fixture means the skin yielded, and the panel may go too. Rollers and hinges on the straight side are left alone if they did not leave the vertical track.
Crooked doors on cottages and beams
Cottages on narrow lanes leave little space to swing a crooked door back toward the track. Salt air weakens steel hardware, and a rusty fixture is more likely to tear when the door is bumped. Raised houses with cars at grade put that lean out in the weather instead of inside a bay. Low headroom under a beam crowds the top fixture, and storms or power cuts leave that roller out.

Common questions
Why is the garage door hanging crooked with a roller outside the track?
A roller has left the vertical track, often because a fixture tore or the track opened. The spring is still loaded, so the door should stay where it hangs. Hammering the roller back in bends more metal and does not make the door safe.
Can an off-track garage door simply be pushed back into its track?
It can be reset only when the cables and the balance are able to hold it. Bent track or a torn fixture is repaired as part of putting the roller back. A creased section from the same bend is handled as a panel repair with the track.
What should people stay away from when the door is off the track?
Stay out of the opening and leave the springs, cables, and set screws alone. Do not pull the release while the door is crooked or hanging partway up. A look from a safe distance is enough until the lifting parts are checked.
