About this work

Power cuts are ordinary from the lower Keys through Homestead. When the lights return, some operators wake up without knowing where the floor is. The door may not move, or it may travel and refuse to stop in the old place. That behavior started at the outage. It is a clue. It is not proof the motor burned.

What you can safely notice

Does the wall button click? Does the trolley jerk and stop? Did this begin in the hour the power came back? Write those answers. Do not hold the button down and walk under the door to 'help' it. If the door is heavy by hand with the trolley released, stop. That is a balance problem the outage only revealed.

Remotes and keypads after a board is unhappy

A logic board that lost its travel points sometimes still knows its remotes, and sometimes it does not. A keypad that worked yesterday and is silent today may be the same event. List which control still does anything. Replacing all three because one is quiet is how people buy parts they did not need.

Surge is a different story from a blink

If the head smells hot, the outlet is charred, or the unit is dead with no light at all, say that. A memory reset will not revive a board that took a spike. We would rather hear 'no lights on the head' than a guess at the model number.

Common questions

Should I reset the breaker again and again?

Once, if the rest of the house is up and the garage outlet is the only thing dark. Repeated resets on a hot head are a reason to leave it alone.

The door works by hand but the operator does nothing. Is the spring involved?

If the door stays where you put it and feels like its usual self, the spring is probably not the new failure. The operator is the lead. Mention the outage anyway.
