Keypad and Remote Repair in Key Largo
Batteries, the learn routine, and the difference between rolling code and an older radio cover most of those jobs. This is not a locksmith visit, and a community gate code is outside the work. A working remote is left alone unless you ask for it to be cleared. The wall button and the photo eyes are checked too, because a door fault can look like a dead remote.
Dead handset working keypad or a new pad
A remote that does nothing, while the wall button still runs the door, is often batteries or a lost code. A keypad that opens the door while the remote is silent means the opener radio is at least partly awake. Older openers use a fixed code or an early rolling code, and current handsets learn differently. A new keypad has to match the radio in the opener, which the label on the housing identifies.
Batteries aim and the lock button
Replace the batteries in the remote and in the keypad before deciding the radio has failed. Check the lock button on the wall console, because it can ignore a remote and still allow the wall button. Wipe the photo eyes if the door refuses to close from the keypad the way it used to. Do not clear a working remote unless you want that remote removed from the opener.
Learn the handset without wiping the others
On the visit the opener label is read and the learn routine for that model is used. A dead remote is given fresh batteries and taught again when the radio matches. A working remote is left programmed unless you ask for the memory to be cleared. A new keypad is mounted where you can reach it, and it is taught to the same opener. If the board no longer accepts a learn step, the opener itself is the repair.
Rolling code older radios and the keypad
Rolling-code handsets change the code at each press, and an older fixed-code remote does not speak that language. The keypad uses the same radio family as the remote, so a mismatch cannot pair. The learn button location depends on the model, which is why the label is copied. Range drops when the antenna is blocked or the opener sits in a tight metal bay. A keypad outdoors needs a cover that fits the pad, or the buttons fill with grit and stop making contact.
Humidity salt and keypads in the weather
Key Largo humidity and salt air reach a keypad mounted outside, especially on a house with the opener under stilts. Open bays leave the remote and the wall console in damp air, and contacts corrode. An enclosed garage protects the opener, while a keypad by the driveway still takes the weather. A raised floor is worth mentioning because that opener and its keypad have been outdoors.

Common questions
The keypad works and the remote does not. What failed?
The opener radio is probably fine, and the remote is the piece that needs batteries or a new learn step. Check the lock button on the wall console before you assume the handset is ruined. A working remote you still like can stay programmed while the dead one is replaced.
Can you set the community gate code on this keypad?
The keypad talks to the garage opener, and a community gate uses its own reader and its own code. Those systems are not programmed from the garage wall console. Bring the opener label if you want a handset or a keypad matched to the door.
Will you erase the handsets that still work?
A working handset stays in memory unless you ask for it to be removed. The dead one can be taught, or replaced, without clearing the others. Say so if you do want every handset wiped and only the new ones kept.
