South Dade
Redland openings sit on acreage, often past a gate and a grove row.
About this area
The Redland is the agricultural district west and south of Homestead's tighter grid. Nurseries, avocado groves, and houses set well back from the pavement are the pattern. A door can be a normal sectional on a ranch house or a wider leaf on a barn-shaped outbuilding that is still a house garage. The driveway may be a hundred yards of gravel.
- Road
- Farm roads off Krome and Bauer, not a city grid
- Housing
- Large-lot houses among groves and nurseries
- Role
- Acreage on the approach, distinct from Homestead's downtown
The last hundred yards
Crews need to know if the van stays on the county road and the walk is long, or if the driveway holds a van. Spring bars are awkward on a soft shoulder.
Dust and irrigation, not sea spray
Hardware here crusts from well water, fertilizer dust, and ordinary humidity. It is not Key Largo chloride. Don't ask for 'marine grade' as a slogan. Describe whether a nursery sprinkler hits the door.
Common questions
Are packing-house roll doors included?
No. A residential overhead door at a house is included. A commercial cooler door is not.
Is Redland a city?
No. It is a community people use by name. Say Redland and the road, not only Homestead, if that is where the house is.
