Rolling Steel Door Repair in Princeton
Rolling-steel repair is for a steel curtain on a barrel with side guides. A steel curtain on a barrel is not a house sectional or a driveway gate. The curtain may stick fully up, fully down, or partway, and the guides may be bent. Some use a hand chain and some a motor, and we do not file building paperwork.
Why the curtain sticks where it is
A curtain that stops partway often has a slat that is bent or a guide that has closed up. One that stays down may be bound in the guides or held by a lock that is still thrown. A hand chain that slips means the drive on the side of the barrel is worn. A motor that hums and does not turn the barrel is an operator fault, separate from a crushed guide.
What to leave alone on the barrel
Leave the curtain where it stopped, and do not tug the hand chain against a bind. You can look at the guides for a dent and say whether the curtain is up, down, or between. Do not climb to the barrel or pry a slat back into a bent guide. Never touch springs on the barrel, cables if any are present, or set screws on the operator.
Barrel guides slats and the operator
The visit covers the barrel, the guides, the slats, and the operator as the parts that let the curtain travel. A single bent slat can be freed or replaced when the rest of the sheet is straight. A crushed guide is opened or replaced so the curtain has a true path on both sides. The barrel springs or the operator are addressed when the sheet itself is free and still refuses to move.
Hand chain and motor drives
A hand-chain hoist turns the barrel through a reduction on the bracket, and a worn hoist slips under load. Side locks and slide bolts have to be clear before either drive is asked to move the sheet. The guides should be plumb and parallel, or slats walk and the motor overloads at the same spot every cycle. After the repair, the curtain should travel in the guides without a slat stepping out of the groove.
Heat on a curtain in a slab bay
These curtains often close a shop or a bay on an unconditioned slab under a hot roof. Afternoon heat expands the sheet and can make a tight guide grab a slat that ran freely in the morning. Lots along US-1 and deeper lots toward farmland both have these barrel doors on working buildings as well as some houses. Say whether the curtain sticks only after the roof and the steel have been in full sun.

Common questions
Is a rolling steel door the same as a house garage door?
A rolling steel door is a curtain that coils on a barrel and runs in side guides. House sectionals and driveway gates are different work from this curtain. The repair stays on the barrel, the guides, the slats, and the operator.
Why does the curtain stop partway up or down?
A stop partway is often a bent slat, a guide that has pinched, or a lock that is still thrown. The operator or the hand chain can also slip once the sheet binds. The guides and the slats are freed before the drive is condemned.
Can one bent guide be repaired without a new curtain?
A bent guide can be opened or replaced when the curtain itself is still straight. One damaged slat can be addressed on its own if the rest of the sheet tracks. A curtain torn across many slats, or a barrel that wobbles, is a larger repair.
