Upper Keys
Tavernier has its own row of streets, even without a city hall.
About this area
Tavernier sits at the southern end of Key Largo, unincorporated, with a recognizable commercial stretch and houses off the highway. People fold it into Key Largo or into Islamorada depending on which errand they are running. For a door visit, Tavernier is the clearer word.
- Road
- US-1 commercial row and residential streets inland and toward the water
- Housing
- Unincorporated residential lots, mixed raised and slab
- Constraint
- No city hall; the community name still has to be right
Why the name matters
A note that says Key Largo can be twenty minutes the wrong way and still look 'correct' to someone who does not live here. Write Tavernier.
Creek and basin lots
Several streets drop toward basins. Bottom seals on those doors age like Islamorada's, while a house set back toward the hammock ages more slowly. Orientation belongs in the note.
Common questions
Is Tavernier part of the Village of Islamorada?
No. The village line is south of here. The pages are separate on purpose.
Do you use a post office name if it disagrees?
Use the community you would tell a driver. If the postal city says Key Largo and you live in Tavernier, say both.
