Lower Keys
Summerland doors often open toward a canal, not a street.
About this area
Summerland Key's residential pattern is canals cut into the island, houses on the fingers, and US-1 as the only through-road. A garage opening on the basin side weathers differently from one that faces the highway buffer. People search the island by name because the mile markers nearby belong to more than one community.
- Road
- US-1, with fingers of canal streets to either side
- Housing
- Canal homes, many with parking at grade
- Constraint
- Basin humidity on doors that never see a drywall ceiling
Which way the door faces
A highway-side leaf collects road dust. A basin-side leaf collects salt at the seal. The repair list changes with that orientation. One sentence in the note is enough.
Shared drives on the fingers
Some fingers end in a turnaround that two houses use. A van with the rear doors open can block a neighbor. Mention a shared end so the crew does not assume a private apron.
Common questions
Is Summerland the same visit as Cudjoe?
They are neighbors and they are not the same island. Hardware exposure is similar. The street pattern is not. We need the island name.
Can you service a door on a boat lift?
No. This is overhead door work for houses, not marine lifts.
