Rolling Steel Door Repair in Stock Island

Request this service+1 (645) 256-1794

Rolling steel repair is for a curtain that coils on a barrel just above the opening. A rolling steel door is a curtain on a barrel with side guides, not a house sectional. A driveway gate is a different trade from this whole curtain and its side guides. People search a curtain stuck up, stuck fully down, or stopped partway in the channels. We service the barrel, the channels, the pieces, and the operator, and we do not file paperwork.

A curtain that coils on a barrel

The curtain may refuse to drop or rise, or it may stop with a jammed slat. A bent guide pinches the slats and can leave the curtain cocked in the opening. A slipping chain, or a motor that hums and does not turn the barrel, spells trouble. Slats that are creased or pulled out of the end lock do not ride the channels. The hood and barrel can be rusty while the stop is a guide or a worn operator.

Stuck or bent guides

Do not ever hang on the hand chain or force a jammed curtain down by hand. Keep people out from under a curtain that is stuck partway or still hanging badly crooked. Never stand under the barrel while someone else pulls, because a freed curtain drops very hard. You can note whether the curtain is up, down, or stopped, and whether the chain still catches. A photo of the bent guide and of the operator nameplate is enough to start.

Leave the curtain alone

The visit works the barrel, the channels, the pieces, and the hand chain or the motor. A pinched guide is opened or replaced so the slats can pass without any cocking. One damaged slat on a straight curtain can be a slat repair rather than a new curtain. A barrel that does not turn, or a stripped operator, is when replacement of that unit makes sense. We do not file building paperwork for the curtain, the channels, or the operator.

Barrel guides and slats

Side guides differ from sectional track, and the slats interlock as they coil upward. End locks keep each slat in the guide, and a missing lock lets a slat walk out. A hand chain drives the barrel through a gear, and a motor does that job when fitted. The hood covers the barrel, and hood rust alone is no reason to condemn the curtain. Width and height, plus the side room, decide whether a slat or a guide is ordered.

Spray on yard curtains

Older houses and yard buildings among the boatyards put curtains beside a narrow spur. Salt spray works on the channels and the bar, and some bays stay open to that air. A curtain that sticks can be a dry guide or a slat swollen with scale. The repair is still the barrel, the guides, and the slats, and the spray explains the roughness. Mention an open bay, because an exposed curtain collects more film than one under a deep hood.

Common questions

Is a steel curtain the same as a sectional?

A rolling steel door coils as a curtain on a barrel between side guides. A driveway gate is a different trade and is handled on a different visit. The work is the barrel, the guides, the slats, and the chain or motor.

Why is the steel curtain stuck halfway?

A stuck curtain is a bent guide, a jammed slat, or a dead motor. Forcing the chain can bend another slat, so leave the curtain where it stopped. Guides and slats are freed, and a bad slat is replaced if it sticks.

Do you file any paperwork for this curtain?

We do not file building paperwork for the curtain or the guides. The visit repairs the barrel, the guides, the slats, and the operator that is installed. Width, height, and side room are measured when a slat or a guide is ordered.
