Keypad and Remote Repair in Stock Island
A keypad and remote visit programs a healthy opener when the wall button still runs that door. People come in because a remote went quiet, the keypad quit, or they want a new one added. This visit is not a locksmith call for the locks on the house itself. A community gate code lives on a different system and stays off this service form. The cover model chooses the learn routine, and older radios do not share one single method.
Quiet remote or keypad
A dead remote with a working wall button is usually a battery or a learn issue. A keypad that beeps and does nothing can be out of range or out of memory. If the wall button is also dead, the opener itself needs a look before any programming. Rolling code units and older radios do not accept the same learn steps at the opener. A remote that still works should stay in memory unless you ask us to clear it.
Checks before any programming
You can change the remote battery and see whether the wall console lock button is on. You can wipe the photo eyes, because a blocked eye stops a close from the keypad. Never touch the springs, the cables, or the set screws while you test a button. Count how many transmitters still answer, and note the brand printed on the opener cover plate. Do not clear every transmitter from the opener unless you mean to teach all of them again.
Teaching the opener memory
We read the cover model and use the learn routine that belongs to that exact unit. A fresh battery is tried in the remote before that remote is ever judged dead. The keypad is mounted where it can see the opener, and then it is taught to it. A working remote is left fully alone unless you ask for it to be cleared out. If the wall button does not run the door, programming stops and the opener is diagnosed.
Codes models and memory
The learn button and the radio type are printed with the model on the opener cover. Rolling code and an older fixed code do not learn from the same button press sequence. A new keypad needs the same routine as a remote made for that exact cover model. Wiping the memory drops every working remote, so that step waits until you ask for it. A hum with no travel is an opener problem, and a new remote cannot fix it.
Weather on the keypad
Older houses among the boatyards mount a keypad on some open bays beside narrow spurs. Salt spray on that outside keypad can pit the buttons even when the opener sits inside. An open bay leaves the keypad in the weather, so the seal around those buttons matters. The learn steps stay the same there, but the weather changes the hardware on the outside. Tell us about an open bay so the keypad exposure and the remote count are both planned.

Common questions
Why did the remote quit but the keypad works?
A quiet remote with a live keypad is often a battery or radio match. The wall button has to run the door before a new remote is taught. The cover model decides if that unit uses rolling code or an older radio.
Can you add a keypad without clearing one?
A new keypad can be taught while a working remote stays in memory. The memory is cleared only when you ask, because that step drops every remote. The cover model still chooses the learn steps for both the keypad and the remote.
Is the gate code part of this?
A community gate code is handled by the gate system, separate from the opener. This repair teaches a keypad or a remote to the opener on the garage door. Bring the brand from the cover and say how many transmitters still answer.
